INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Matthew 8:28-34
When Jesus came to the territory of the Gadarenes,
two demoniacs who were coming from the tombs met him.
They were so savage that no one could travel by that road.
They cried out, “What have you to do with us, Son of God?
Have you come here to torment us before the appointed time?”
Some distance away a herd of many swine was feeding.
The demons pleaded with him,
“If you drive us out, send us into the herd of swine.”
And he said to them, “Go then!”
They came out and entered the swine,
and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea
where they drowned.
The swineherds ran away,
and when they came to the town they reported everything,
including what had happened to the demoniacs.
Thereupon the whole town came out to meet Jesus,
and when they saw him they begged him to leave their district.
EVERY DAY QUESTION
What struck you? Challenged you? Inspired you? What questions did it raise?
GOING DEEPER
The Christian life is not merely about avoiding evil, but living confidently in the victory of Christ over it.
Where have fear, discouragement, temptation, or hopelessness been whispering more loudly than the voice of Christ?
Modern readers often find today’s Gospel unsettling because it confronts something our culture prefers to ignore: the reality of spiritual warfare. Yet notice what is most striking about the passage. There is no contest. The demons recognize Jesus before many people do. They know exactly Who stands before them, and with a single command—”Go!”—their power is broken. Matthew is not inviting us to become fascinated with evil. He is inviting us to become captivated by Christ’s absolute authority over it.
The location itself is significant. Jesus enters Gentile territory where tombs, swine, and ritual uncleanness converge. To a first-century Jewish audience, this represented a place of profound spiritual darkness. Yet this is precisely where Jesus goes. Throughout the Gospels, Christ continually moves toward the places everyone else avoids. No person, no wound, no addiction, no family, and no culture is beyond the reach of His redeeming love.
The town’s response is perhaps the greatest surprise. Rather than rejoicing that two men have been restored, they ask Jesus to leave. Why? His presence disrupted the order they had grown comfortable with. We often pray for Christ to transform our lives—until His grace begins asking us to surrender habits, attachments, or patterns we have quietly learned to protect. Sometimes the greatest obstacle to conversion is not disbelief, but our reluctance to let Christ reorder our lives.
The Church has always understood this Gospel as a reminder that every Christian lives within a real spiritual battle. Yet we fight from victory, not for victory. Through His Cross and Resurrection, Christ has already conquered sin, Satan, and death. The sacraments, prayer, Scripture, and the communion of the Church are not merely comforting practices; they are Christ’s own means of drawing us into His victorious life.
This begins in the home. Every family must decide whose voice will shape its future. Build saint-forming homes by filling them with Scripture, prayer, forgiveness, and the sacraments. Pray over your spouse and children by name. Call daily upon the Holy Spirit. The Enemy seeks to isolate, accuse, and divide. Christ gathers, heals, and restores. Every day we choose which voice we will believe.
“Christ’s whole life is a mystery of redemption. Redemption comes to us above all through the blood of His Cross, but this mystery is at work throughout Christ’s entire life.” (CCC 517)
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
In My Heart: Where am I allowing fear or discouragement to overshadow Christ’s authority?
In My Home: How can our family become more intentional about inviting Christ’s presence into our daily life?
In My World: What area of my life needs to be more fully surrendered to Jesus today?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Gather together and have each family member share one way they have experienced God’s protection or peace during a difficult time.
Then pray over each person by name. Ask Jesus to strengthen their faith, guard them from every influence opposed to His love, and fill them with the confidence that comes from belonging to Him.
Daily Challenge: Whenever fear or temptation arises today, quietly pray: “Jesus, I belong to You.”
DAILY PARENT & GRANDPARENT BLESSING
LORD JESUS CHRIST, let Your holy anointing be upon each of our children, grandchildren, and godchildren this day and week, including all to whom they are called in vocation, and all future generations! In Your Sacred Name we claim them for You! We renounce all whispers, lies, and influences of the Enemy! We pray right now that each know Your loving Presence, be forged in virtue, and be flooded with an abundance of Your Holy Spirit to live fully their identity and mission in You now and through all eternity, through the intercession of our Blessed Mother! Amen.

GOING VERTICAL
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Just as the vertical beam upholds the horizontal beam of the Cross, so too does undistracted, dedicated daily turning to God as our lifeblood uphold and strengthen every part of life. Start with just three minutes. Wait patiently for the breakthrough beyond the noise. Let Him speak.
