INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | John 20:1-2, 11-18
On the first day of the week,
Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early in the morning,
while it was still dark,
and saw the stone removed from the tomb.
So she ran and went to Simon Peter
and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and told them,
"They have taken the Lord from the tomb,
and we don't know where they put him."
Mary stayed outside the tomb weeping.
And as she wept, she bent over into the tomb
and saw two angels in white sitting there,
one at the head and one at the feet
where the Body of Jesus had been.
And they said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping?"
She said to them, "They have taken my Lord,
and I don't know where they laid him."
When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus there,
but did not know it was Jesus.
Jesus said to her, "Woman, why are you weeping?
Whom are you looking for?"
She thought it was the gardener and said to him,
"Sir, if you carried him away,
tell me where you laid him,
and I will take him."
Jesus said to her, "Mary!"
She turned and said to him in Hebrew,
"Rabbouni," which means Teacher.
Jesus said to her,
"Stop holding on to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father.
But go to my brothers and tell them,
'I am going to my Father and your Father,
to my God and your God.'"
Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples,
"I have seen the Lord,"
and then reported what he told her.

GOING DEEPER
The turning point of every Christian life comes when Jesus stops being merely someone we seek—and becomes the One who calls us by name.
What part of my life is still searching for God while failing to recognize that He is already calling me personally?
Mary Magdalene arrives at the tomb while it is still dark. John is describing more than the hour of the day. Throughout his Gospel, darkness symbolizes the world without the full light of Christ. Mary’s heart is filled with love, but also with grief, confusion, and unanswered questions. She believes death has had the final word. Like so many of us, she is looking for Jesus—but she is looking in yesterday’s place, among the dead. Resurrection always surprises us because God refuses to remain confined to our expectations.
Everything changes with a single word: “Mary.” The Good Shepherd had promised, “He calls His own sheep by name” (Jn 10:3), and now that promise is fulfilled. Recognition is born not from Mary’s searching but from Christ’s initiative. The deepest truth of the spiritual life is that before we ever sought God, He sought us. Before we loved Him, He loved us. Our entire Christian journey is a response to a Voice that has been calling our name from the beginning.
This is why St. Mary Magdalene has been honored by the Church with a feast normally reserved for the Apostles. St. Thomas Aquinas called her the Apostola Apostolorum—the “Apostle to the Apostles”—because the Risen Christ entrusted to her the first proclamation of Easter: “I have seen the Lord.” Her mission did not arise from scholarship, position, or influence. It flowed from encounter. Evangelization always begins this way. We cannot convincingly announce Someone we have not personally met.
Jesus then tells her, “Stop holding on to Me.” At first this seems almost harsh, but it is an invitation into something greater. Mary must not cling to the familiar way of relating to Jesus because His Resurrection has inaugurated a new creation. Through His Ascension and the gift of the Holy Spirit, Christ will become present to His Church in a deeper, sacramental way. Faith is not nostalgia for what once was; it is joyful participation in the living Christ who remains with us today, especially in the Holy Eucharist.
The Feast of St. Mary Magdalene asks every disciple a simple but searching question: Have I merely learned about Jesus, or have I encountered Him? This encounter unfolds in the ordinary rhythm of Christian life—in silent prayer, Sacred Scripture, Eucharistic adoration, Sunday Mass, and the grace of Confession. There the Risen Lord continues to call each of us by name, transforming fearful followers into joyful witnesses.
Bring this into your home. Every child longs to be known. Every spouse longs to be seen. Every human heart longs to hear, in one way or another, its own name spoken with unconditional love. Build saint-forming homes where people are recognized before they are corrected, cherished before they are challenged, and reminded daily of their God-given identity. Pray over your spouse and children by name. Call daily upon the Holy Spirit. The greatest gift you can give your family is not merely good advice, but a life that can honestly say with Mary Magdalene: “I have seen the Lord.”

In My Heart: Where is Jesus calling me by name today, inviting me into deeper trust?
In My Home: How can I help each member of my family know they are personally loved, seen, and called by God?
In My World: Who needs to hear—not merely from my words but from my life—that Christ is truly alive?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Gather together and have each family member share one quality they appreciate about every other member of the family, calling each person by name before speaking.
Then pray over each person by name. Thank Jesus for creating each one uniquely and lovingly. Ask the Holy Spirit to help your family hear the voice of the Good Shepherd more clearly and to become joyful witnesses of the Resurrection through the intercession of St. Mary Magdalene.
Daily Challenge: Speak one person’s name today with the same tenderness Christ spoke Mary’s. Let them experience, through you, what it feels like to be truly seen.

LORD JESUS CHRIST, let Your holy anointing be upon each of our children, grandchildren, and godchildren this day and week, including all to whom they are called in vocation, and all future generations! In Your Sacred Name we claim them for You! We renounce all whispers, lies, and influences of the Enemy! We pray right now that each know Your loving Presence, be forged in virtue, and be flooded with an abundance of Your Holy Spirit to live fully their identity and mission in You now and through all eternity, through the intercession of our Blessed Mother! Amen.
