INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | John 11:19-27
Many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary
to comfort them about their brother [Lazarus, who had died].
When Martha heard that Jesus was coming,
she went to meet him;
but Mary sat at home.
Martha said to Jesus,
“Lord, if you had been here,
my brother would not have died.
But even now I know that whatever you ask of God,
God will give you.”
Jesus said to her,
“Your brother will rise.”
Martha said to him,
“I know he will rise,
in the resurrection on the last day.”
Jesus told her,
“I am the resurrection and the life;
whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live,
and anyone who lives and believes in me will never die.
Do you believe this?”
She said to him, “Yes, Lord.
I have come to believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God,
the one who is coming into the world.”

GOING DEEPER
Jesus meets us in the reality of our grief and calls us to place our whole hope in Him, the Resurrection and the Life.
Where do we most need to let Jesus move our faith from a distant idea into a present, personal trust?
The Gospel brings us into a home wounded by loss. Martha and Mary have lost their brother, and their house is filled with people who have come to console them. In the Jewish world, mourning was not meant to be carried in isolation; the community entered the grief of the family. Even in sorrow, God makes room for accompaniment.
Saints Martha, Mary, and Lazarus show us three beloved friends of Jesus whose home at Bethany became a place of welcome, friendship, tears, and faith. This is the beautiful calling of the domestic church: not to present a polished image of family life, but to become a place where Jesus is received in the middle of its real joys, questions, failures, and heartbreaks.
Martha’s words are remarkably honest: “Lord, if you had been here …” She does not hide her sorrow or edit her disappointment. Yet she also says, “But even now I know.” That is faith under pressure—not pretending that pain makes sense, but continuing to turn toward the One who does not abandon us in it.
Then Jesus does not merely offer Martha a religious concept about the future. He gives her Himself: “I am the resurrection and the life.” Christianity is not simply the conviction that everything will somehow work out. It is trust in the living Christ, who has conquered death and holds every person we love more securely than we ever could.
In marriage and family life, there are many smaller deaths that need resurrection: a broken expectation, a child’s struggle, a diagnosis, a strained relationship, the ache of an empty chair, or a hope that seems delayed. We need not deny the ache. We bring it into the presence of Jesus. Grief that is given to Christ becomes ground where resurrection hope can take root.
The question Jesus asks Martha is also addressed to us: “Do you believe this?” Receive His question anew. Build saint-forming homes, pray over your children by name, and act in the power of the Holy Spirit so that, in every grief and uncertainty, your family may proclaim with Martha: “Yes, Lord.”
“But there is more. Jesus links faith in the resurrection to his own person: ‘I am the Resurrection and the life.’ It is Jesus himself who on the last day will raise up those who have believed in him, who have eaten his body and drunk his blood. Already now in this present life he gives a sign and pledge of this by restoring some of the dead to life, announcing thereby his own Resurrection, though it was to be of another order.” (CCC, 994)
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
In My Heart: What grief, disappointment, or fear have I kept at a distance from Jesus rather than bringing honestly to Him?
In My Home: How can our family become a more compassionate place for one another’s hurts and struggles?
In My World: Who needs the concrete consolation of my presence, prayer, or encouragement today?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around … invite each person to share one person, situation, or concern they want to place in the hands of Jesus.
Then pray over each person by name. Ask Jesus to let them know personally the Father’s unfailing love, to free them from every lie of the Enemy, to strengthen them against temptation, and to give them joyful confidence that Christ is present in every part of their life. Ask the Holy Spirit to make your home a place of welcome, mercy, and resurrection hope.
Daily Challenge: Reach out today to someone carrying grief or hardship and let them know they are not alone.

LORD JESUS CHRIST, let Your holy anointing be upon each of our children, grandchildren, and godchildren this day and week, including all to whom they are called in vocation, and all future generations! In Your Sacred Name we claim them for You! We renounce all whispers, lies, and influences of the Enemy! We pray right now that each know Your loving Presence, be forged in virtue, and be flooded with an abundance of Your Holy Spirit to live fully their identity and mission in You now and through all eternity, through the intercession of our Blessed Mother! Amen.
