GOD’S DECLARATION TO YOU TODAY
You do not need the approval of others to know your value. I see you, I love you, and I delight in every act of faithfulness offered to Me.
INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Matthew 6:1-6, 16-18
Jesus said to his disciples:
"Take care not to perform righteous deeds
in order that people may see them;
otherwise, you will have no recompense from your heavenly Father.
When you give alms, do not blow a trumpet before you,
as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets
to win the praise of others.
Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward.
But when you give alms,
do not let your left hand know what your right is doing,
so that your almsgiving may be secret.
And your Father who sees in secret will repay you.
"When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites,
who love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on street corners
so that others may see them.
Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward.
But when you pray, go to your inner room, close the door,
and pray to your Father in secret.
And your Father who sees in secret will repay you.
"When you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites.
They neglect their appearance,
so that they may appear to others to be fasting.
Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward.
But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face,
so that you may not appear to others to be fasting,
except to your Father who is hidden.
And your Father who sees what is hidden will repay you."
EVERY DAY QUESTION
What struck you? Challenged you? Inspired you? What questions did it raise?
GOING DEEPER
One of the greatest tests of love is what we do when nobody is watching.
How much of your spiritual life is shaped by a desire to please God rather than impress others?
Jesus addresses a temptation that is as old as humanity itself: the desire to be seen, noticed, praised, and affirmed. The hypocrites He describes were not necessarily doing bad things. They were giving alms, praying, and fasting—activities that are objectively good. The problem was not the action. The problem was the audience.
Again and again, Jesus directs our attention to the Father “who sees in secret.” Those words appear repeatedly throughout today’s Gospel because they reveal something essential about God’s heart. The Father is not merely watching our public successes. He sees the hidden sacrifices, quiet prayers, unseen acts of kindness, secret struggles, and faithful choices that no one else notices.
The culture around us often encourages performance. Social media invites us to display our accomplishments. Professional life rewards visibility. Even within spiritual circles, there can be a subtle temptation to seek recognition for our generosity, service, or devotion. Yet Jesus reminds us that the deepest transformations often occur in hidden places.
The saints understood this well. They discovered that intimacy with God grows most powerfully when love is offered without applause. A quiet prayer before dawn. A hidden sacrifice for one’s spouse. A generous act that remains anonymous. A difficult forgiveness known only to God. These become treasures stored in Heaven because they are offered purely for love.
Family life provides countless opportunities for hidden holiness. Much of parenting, marriage, caregiving, and discipleship happens away from public view. The meals prepared, prayers whispered, tears shed, encouragement offered, and sacrifices made often go unnoticed by the world. Yet the Father sees every one of them. Nothing done for love is ever wasted.
Jesus is not calling us to withdraw from the world but to purify our motives within it. The question is not whether others notice our good works. The question is whether we would still do them if no one noticed at all. The Father who sees in secret is forming within us a heart that seeks Him above all else.
Build saint-forming homes by cultivating a love that does not depend upon recognition. Pray over your spouse and children by name. Call daily upon the Holy Spirit. Celebrate not only visible achievements but hidden acts of faithfulness. Teach your family that the applause of Heaven is infinitely more valuable than the applause of the world.
“The Christian life strives above all to seek ‘the Kingdom of God and his righteousness.’” (CCC 2819)
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
In My Heart: Where am I tempted to seek recognition, affirmation, or approval more than God’s pleasure?
In My Home: How can our family grow in hidden acts of love and service?
In My World: What good work can I do today without seeking acknowledgment or praise?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around, share a hidden act of kindness someone once did for you that deeply impacted your life.
Then pray over each person by name. Ask God to strengthen their desire to please Him above all else. Pray that they reject every lie that their worth depends upon recognition, grow in humility, and discover the joy of serving God with a pure heart.
Daily Challenge: Perform one meaningful act of kindness today without telling anyone about it.

We pray right now that each know Your loving Presence, be forged in virtue, and be flooded with an abundance of Your Holy Spirit to live fully their identity and mission in You now and through all eternity, through the intercession of our Blessed Mother! Amen.

GOING VERTICAL
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Just as the vertical beam upholds the horizontal beam of the Cross, so too does undistracted, dedicated daily turning to God as our lifeblood uphold and strengthen every part of life. Start with just three minutes. Wait patiently for the breakthrough beyond the noise. Let Him speak.
