GOD’S DECLARATION TO YOU TODAY
My voice carries the power of life—hear Me, believe Me, and you will pass from death into life.
INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | John 5:17–30
Jesus answered the Jews:
“My Father is at work until now, so I am at work.”
For this reason they tried all the more to kill him,
because he not only broke the sabbath
but he also called God his own father, making himself equal to God.
Jesus answered and said to them,
“Amen, amen, I say to you, the Son cannot do anything on his own,
but only what he sees the Father doing;
for what he does, the Son will do also.
For the Father loves the Son
and shows him everything that he himself does,
and he will show him greater works than these,
so that you may be amazed.
For just as the Father raises the dead and gives life,
so also does the Son give life to whomever he wishes.
Nor does the Father judge anyone,
but he has given all judgment to the Son,
so that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father.
Whoever does not honor the Son
does not honor the Father who sent him.
Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever hears my word
and believes in the one who sent me
has eternal life and will not come to condemnation,
but has passed from death to life.
Amen, amen, I say to you, the hour is coming and is now here
when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God,
and those who hear will live.
For just as the Father has life in himself,
so also he gave to the Son the possession of life in himself.
And he gave him power to exercise judgment,
because he is the Son of Man.
Do not be amazed at this,
because the hour is coming in which all who are in the tombs
will hear his voice and will come out,
those who have done good deeds
to the resurrection of life,
but those who have done wicked deeds
to the resurrection of condemnation.
“I cannot do anything on my own;
I judge as I hear, and my judgment is just,
because I do not seek my own will
but the will of the one who sent me.”

GOING DEEPER
The voice of Jesus does not merely teach—it brings the dead to life.
What does it mean that Jesus says those who hear His voice will live?
In this passage Jesus reveals something astonishing about His identity. The Jewish leaders understood exactly what He was claiming. By calling God His Father in a unique way, Jesus was declaring equality with God. This is why the Gospel says they sought all the more to kill Him. The claim was unmistakable: the life and authority of God Himself now flows through the Son.
Notice how Jesus repeatedly says “Amen, amen.” In Greek the phrase is amen, amen lego hymin—“Truly, truly I say to you.” In the Gospels this doubled “amen” is used only by Jesus. It signals a solemn divine declaration. What follows is not merely wisdom or teaching. It is revelation spoken with the authority of God.
Jesus then makes one of the most profound claims in all of Scripture: those who hear His voice pass from death to life. The Greek verb indicates something already happening in the present. Eternal life is not only a future promise after death. It begins now when a person hears and believes the word of Christ.
The passage also reveals the extraordinary intimacy within the Trinity. The Father shows the Son everything He is doing because the Father loves the Son. The Son does only what He sees the Father doing. This is perfect communion. Jesus invites us into that very life through faith.
In our homes this truth becomes deeply practical. Families today are surrounded by many voices—media, culture, opinions, anxieties, and endless digital noise. Yet Jesus says there is one voice that truly gives life: His. When we learn to listen to Him, something changes inside us.
The domestic church becomes alive when families intentionally place Christ’s voice at the center. Scripture is read. Prayer is spoken aloud. Forgiveness is practiced. Parents model obedience to the Father’s will just as Jesus did. Slowly, the atmosphere of the home changes because the living word of Christ is being heard.
Parents, this Gospel calls us to spiritual leadership that echoes the heart of Jesus Himself. Let the voice of Christ be the loudest voice in your home. Speak His word with courage. Pray over your children by name. Teach them to listen for His voice in Scripture, prayer, and conscience. Through the Holy Spirit, the same voice that calls the dead to life is speaking into your family today.
“Jesus’ resurrection is not an isolated event but the definitive intervention of God in history. Christ is the Lord of eternal life.” (CCC 989)
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
In My Heart: Am I truly listening for the voice of Christ, or allowing other voices to shape my decisions and attitudes?
In My Home: What practices could help our family hear God’s voice more clearly together?
In My World: How can I help others encounter the life-giving voice of Jesus this week?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around, share one place in life where each person needs to hear Jesus more clearly.
Then pray together as a family. Parents, place your hands gently on each person and pray over them by name. Ask the Holy Spirit to open their ears to recognize the voice of Jesus and reject any lies or confusion from the Enemy. Pray for strength to resist temptation, courage to follow Christ’s will, and joy in living the Gospel each day.
Daily Challenge: As a family, read one short passage from the Gospels today and spend two minutes quietly listening for what Jesus might be saying to each of you.

GOING VERTICAL
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Just as the vertical beam upholds the horizontal beam of the Cross, so too does undistracted, dedicated daily turning to God as our lifeblood uphold and strengthen every part of life. Start with just three minutes. Wait patiently for the breakthrough beyond the noise. Let Him speak.
