INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Luke 17:11–19
As Jesus continued his journey to Jerusalem,
he traveled through Samaria and Galilee.
As he was entering a village, ten lepers met him.
They stood at a distance from him and raised their voice, saying,
“Jesus, Master! Have pity on us!”
And when he saw them, he said,
“Go show yourselves to the priests.”
As they were going they were cleansed.
And one of them, realizing he had been healed,
returned, glorifying God in a loud voice;
and he fell at the feet of Jesus and thanked him.
He was a Samaritan.
Jesus said in reply,
“Ten were cleansed, were they not?
Where are the other nine?
Has none but this foreigner returned to give thanks to God?”
Then he said to him, “Stand up and go;
your faith has saved you.”
EVERY DAY QUESTION
What struck you? Challenged you? Inspired you? What questions did it raise?
GOING DEEPER
Gratitude doesn’t just thank God—it brings us back to Him.
The lepers cry from a distance. Their disease isolates them from community, temple, and touch. When Jesus tells them to “go show yourselves to the priests,” they obey—and as they go, they are healed. Yet only one returns. The miracle cured all ten, but gratitude transformed only one.
The Greek word eucharisteo—“to give thanks”—is the root of Eucharist. Gratitude is not mere politeness; it is participation in divine life. The Samaritan, an outsider in every way, alone recognizes that the healing points beyond itself—to the Healer. He alone turns back, falls to his knees, and glorifies God. Jesus then reveals the deeper miracle: “Your faith has saved you.” The others received restoration of the body; he received redemption of the soul.
Here lies the piercing truth: nine were content with gifts—one desired the Giver. The tragedy of ingratitude is not simply forgetting to say “thank you,” but failing to return to the Source. Gratitude is the soil in which faith takes root, the bridge between blessing and relationship.
In our homes, how often do we rush past the graces God gives daily—health, shelter, family, forgiveness—without truly seeing Him in them? Parents, when we pause to thank God aloud in front of our children, even for the small things, we are teaching them that life is not random but redeemed. Gratitude makes the invisible God visible in the ordinary rhythms of family life.
One act of thanksgiving can heal years of resentment. A single “thank You, Lord” uttered with love can draw heaven near. Like the Samaritan, fall at His feet today—and watch how faith makes you whole.
“Every joy and suffering, every event and need can become the matter for thanksgiving which, sharing in that of Christ, should fill one’s whole life.” (CCC 2638)
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
Gratitude or Entitlement: Do I tend to focus more on what I lack or on what God has already given me?
Returning to the Source: When has gratitude brought me closer to Jesus rather than just to His gifts?
Teaching Thanksgiving: How can I help my family practice gratitude aloud in a consistent, heartfelt way?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Gather for dinner or prayer tonight. Each person shares one specific way they’ve seen God’s goodness today. Then pray over one another by name:
Lord Jesus, open [Name]’s eyes to Your gifts all around them. Fill [Name]’s heart with joy that comes from gratitude. Teach our family to return to You in praise and thanksgiving so that we may live every moment in Your Presence.
DAILY PARENT & GRANDPARENT BLESSING
LORD JESUS CHRIST, let Your holy anointing be upon each of our children, grandchildren, and godchildren this day and week, including all to whom they are called in vocation, and all future generations! In Your Sacred Name we claim them for You! We renounce all whispers, lies, and influences of the Enemy! We pray right now that each know Your loving Presence, be forged in virtue, and be flooded with an abundance of Your Holy Spirit to live fully their identity and mission in You now and through all eternity, through the intercession of our Blessed Mother! Amen.

GOING VERTICAL
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Just as the vertical beam upholds the horizontal beam of the Cross, so too does undistracted, dedicated daily turning to God as our lifeblood uphold and strengthen every part of life. Start with just three minutes. Wait patiently for the breakthrough beyond the noise. Let Him speak.
