GOD’S DECLARATION TO YOU TODAY
I will give you the wisdom you need. You are never alone in the battle.
INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Luke 21:12–19
Jesus said to the crowd:
“They will seize and persecute you,
they will hand you over to the synagogues and to prisons,
and they will have you led before kings and governors
because of my name.
It will lead to your giving testimony.
Remember, you are not to prepare your defense beforehand,
for I myself shall give you a wisdom in speaking
that all your adversaries will be powerless to resist or refute.
You will even be handed over by parents,
brothers, relatives, and friends,
and they will put some of you to death.
You will be hated by all because of my name,
but not a hair on your head will be destroyed.
By your perseverance you will secure your lives.”

GOING DEEPER
Perseverance is the path, not the punishment
Today’s Gospel is one of the most sobering teachings Jesus gives—and yet one of the most consoling. He offers no illusions: discipleship will cost something. Faithfulness will rub against the grain of the world. At times, even relationships closest to us may strain because of our fidelity. But Jesus’ aim is not to frighten; it is to fortify.
What He promises is extraordinary: “I myself shall give you a wisdom.” In Greek, Jesus uses dōsō—“I will personally impart, grant, pour into you.” This is not theoretical support. It is divine accompaniment. When your faith is tested, when words fail you, when pressure mounts, Jesus Himself will supply the wisdom, courage, timing, and clarity that no adversary can withstand.
In the early Church, this became visibly true. Ordinary Christians—slaves, mothers, craftsmen, teens—stood before councils and governors whose power dwarfed theirs. Yet their courage and serenity confounded the mighty. Perseverance was not their personality; it was grace alive in them. Courage is not the absence of fear but the refusal to surrender the truth.
Jesus warns that persecution can come even from family. This hits close to home. Many today face misunderstanding, ridicule, or tension within their own households or extended families because they seek to live the Gospel with integrity. But Jesus anchors the whole teaching with a stunning promise: “Not a hair on your head will be destroyed.” He does not promise protection from suffering—He promises protection from meaninglessness. Nothing given to Him—no tear, no trial, no wound—is wasted.
In family life, we may not face imprisonment or martyrdom, but we do face daily challenges that test our perseverance: misunderstandings, emotional fatigue, spiritual dryness, conflict, discouragement, cultural hostility, and the temptation to compromise out of fear or convenience. Yet Jesus calls us to steadfastness—not through sheer willpower, but through reliance on Him.
Perseverance in the domestic church looks like staying faithful in prayer when you feel empty, blessing your children when you’re exhausted, choosing forgiveness when it’s hard, loving your spouse when emotions run thin, and doing good even when unnoticed. These are not small acts. These are the acts that secure your life in Christ.
Parents, Jesus wants to strengthen you for the daily witness of love. Tonight, pray over your spouse and children by name, asking the Holy Spirit to give them divine wisdom, resilience, courage, clarity, and the grace to persevere through every challenge they face today.
“‘By his endurance he accomplished the work of redemption.’” (CCC 618)
