GOD’S DECLARATION TO YOU TODAY
You are entrusted with My gifts not to possess them, but to pour them out. Be faithful in the little things—I am coming to bless your obedience with eternity.
INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Luke 12:39-48
Jesus said to his disciples:
“Be sure of this:
if the master of the house had known the hour
when the thief was coming,
he would not have let his house be broken into.
You also must be prepared,
for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come.”
Then Peter said,
“Lord, is this parable meant for us or for everyone?”
And the Lord replied,
“Who, then, is the faithful and prudent steward
whom the master will put in charge of his servants
to distribute the food allowance at the proper time?
Blessed is that servant whom his master on arrival finds doing so.
Truly, I say to you, he will put him
in charge of all his property.
But if that servant says to himself,
‘My master is delayed in coming,’
and begins to beat the menservants and the maidservants,
to eat and drink and get drunk,
then that servant’s master will come
on an unexpected day and at an unknown hour
and will punish the servant severely
and assign him a place with the unfaithful.
That servant who knew his master’s will
but did not make preparations nor act in accord with his will
shall be beaten severely;
and the servant who was ignorant of his master’s will
but acted in a way deserving of a severe beating
shall be beaten only lightly.
Much will be required of the person entrusted with much,
and still more will be demanded of the person entrusted with more.”
EVERY DAY QUESTION
What struck you? Challenged you? Inspired you? What questions did it raise?
GOING DEEPER
God’s greatest trust is not in what we have—but in what we do with it.
This Gospel feels like a warning, but beneath it beats a pulse of love. Jesus isn’t trying to scare His disciples into vigilance; He’s trying to awaken them to dignity. The “faithful and prudent steward” (oikonomos pistos kai phronimos in Greek) is not a mere employee—he’s entrusted with the care of souls and the resources of the Master Himself. To be human is to be appointed caretaker of what belongs to God.
The danger, Jesus says, is complacency. “My master is delayed.” That single thought poisons the steward’s heart. Once he believes God is distant or disengaged, virtue fades and vice fills the vacuum. The Greek term for “to be prepared” (hetoimos) literally means “to be made ready through constant attention.” Holiness, then, is not panic over God’s timing—it’s fidelity in the present moment.
Notice how Jesus ends: “Much will be required of the person entrusted with much.” This isn’t punishment—it’s purpose. The more we’ve received—grace, influence, talents, family—the more opportunity we have to reveal God’s generosity. His question is not How much have you gained? but How much have you given?
In our homes, we are the stewards—the ones charged to distribute “food at the proper time.” That food is not just physical but spiritual: patience, encouragement, prayer, forgiveness. Every day parents feed souls through tone, attention, and example. When we hoard love or neglect prayer, the household starves. When we give freely, grace multiplies.
So stay awake—not in fear, but in faithfulness. Be found doing the small things with great love. Parents, tonight pray over your children by name, asking the Lord to make you faithful stewards of the time, words, and hearts He’s placed in your care.
“To whom much is given, more will be required. The measure of love is to love without measure.” (CCC 1825)

FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around, name one “trust” God has given each person—a gift, role, or responsibility. Then share one way you can use it this week to bless someone else.
Then pray over each person by name: Lord Jesus, make [Name] a faithful steward of Your love. Strengthen [Name] to be vigilant and generous. Free [Name] from complacency and fill [Name] with joy in serving You through every act of care and kindness.
