INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Luke 6:12-16
Jesus went up to the mountain to pray,
and he spent the night in prayer to God.
When day came, he called his disciples to himself,
and from them he chose Twelve, whom he also named Apostles:
Simon, whom he named Peter, and his brother Andrew,
James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew,
Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus,
Simon who was called a Zealot,
and Judas the son of James,
and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.
EVERY DAY QUESTION
What struck you? Challenged you? Inspired you? What questions did it raise?
GOING DEEPER
Our mission takes shape within the communion with God for which we were created.
What might change if your next important decision began with time in the Father’s presence?
Before the names, before the responsibilities, before the journeys that will carry these men into the world, Jesus spends the night in prayer. Luke lets us linger there. The choosing of the Twelve emerges within His communion with the Father. We often hurry toward the decision, hoping prayer will supply an answer quickly enough for us to resume control. Jesus reveals the depth of a life lived in relationship with God.
Notice the order of the morning: He calls His disciples to Himself, chooses Twelve from among them, and names them Apostles. Their appointment takes place within an existing relationship of discipleship. They have been following Him; now He entrusts them with a particular responsibility. That sequence invites us to examine how readily we pursue useful work for God while neglecting the closeness through which He forms us for it.
Today we celebrate Saints Simon and Jude. Their names appear within a community whose members receive very different amounts of attention in the Gospel accounts. Here, their significance rests in Jesus’ personal choice and the mission He gives them. We can receive that as an invitation to relinquish comparison. God knows the person whose faithful service attracts little notice. A life offered to Him has a purpose that public recognition cannot measure.
Most of us experience some distance between the faith we profess and the inward life we actually inhabit. We carry decisions through anxious rehearsals, then ask God to bless what we have already settled. Prayer opens that enclosed conversation to Him. Through Christ, we are invited to participate in the life of the Blessed Trinity and allow His love to shape our desires, judgment, and action. Give the relationship room to form the response.
For us as parents, the home is the domestic church, where decisions can easily outrun communion. We discuss a child’s struggle, household finances, or an aging parent’s needs while tired and defensive. We can pause together, ask the Holy Spirit for wisdom, and listen before insisting. The presence of Judas Iscariot in the Twelve also reminds us that a genuine calling does not remove human freedom or guarantee fidelity. We pray, seek sound counsel, fulfill our responsibilities, and keep returning to Jesus ourselves.
Build saint-forming homes by placing prayer within the decisions that shape your family’s life; pray over your spouse and children by name, asking that each grow in friendship with Christ and faithfulness to His call; act in the power of the Holy Spirit by bringing one pressing decision before God and listening together before taking the next step.
“Contemplative prayer is hearing the Word of God.” (CCC 2716)
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
In My Heart: What decision am I trying to control without allowing God to examine my desires?
In My Home: Where could praying and listening together change the way we approach a difficult matter?
In My World: What quiet responsibility might I embrace more freely if I stopped comparing my calling with someone else’s?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around … invite each person to name one decision or responsibility for which they would welcome God’s guidance. Allow a brief moment of silence after each person speaks.
Then pray over each person by name: “Father, help [Name] personally know the love with which You receive them. Free them from the Enemy’s lies that they are overlooked or must discover their purpose alone. Strengthen them to overcome temptation, especially comparison, self-reliance, and the desire for approval. Holy Spirit, give them joyful willingness to follow Jesus through attentive prayer, wise choices, and faithful service. Amen.”
Daily Challenge: Before making one meaningful decision today, pause and ask God to guide your desires as well as your actions.
DAILY PARENT & GRANDPARENT BLESSING
LORD JESUS CHRIST, let Your holy anointing be upon each of our children, grandchildren, and godchildren this day and week, including all to whom they are called in vocation, and all future generations! In Your Sacred Name we claim them for You! We renounce all whispers, lies, and influences of the Enemy! We pray right now that each know Your loving Presence, be forged in virtue, and be flooded with an abundance of Your Holy Spirit to live fully their identity and mission in You now and through all eternity, through the intercession of our Blessed Mother! Amen.

GOING VERTICAL
“Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
Just as the vertical beam upholds the horizontal beam of the Cross, so too does undistracted, dedicated daily turning to God as our lifeblood uphold and strengthen every part of life. Start with just three minutes. Wait patiently for the breakthrough beyond the noise. Let Him speak.
