GOD’S DECLARATION TO YOU TODAY
You are not the child of a mood. You are a child of Wisdom.
INVOCATION
Come, Holy Spirit! Through the intercession of Our Blessed Mother Mary, open my heart to hear and receive all that You desire for me. Draw me ever more deeply into the Love and Life of the Blessed Trinity!
GOSPEL | Luke 7:31-35
Jesus said to the crowds:
“To what shall I compare the people of this generation?
What are they like?
They are like children who sit in the marketplace and call to one another,
‘We played the flute for you, but you did not dance.
We sang a dirge, but you did not weep.’
For John the Baptist came neither eating food nor drinking wine,
and you said, ‘He is possessed by a demon.’
The Son of Man came eating and drinking and you said,
‘Look, he is a glutton and a drunkard,
a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’
But wisdom is vindicated by all her children.”

GOING DEEPER
The tragedy is not that God failed to come. It is that we kept changing the song so we would never have to join it.
Beloved, where have you required Jesus to match your preference before you would give Him your heart?
The image would have been instantly clear. In the marketplace, children played two games: a wedding song on the flute, and a funeral dirge. One called for dancing. The other called for tears. Jesus says this generation sat in the square and accused everyone else of refusing to play along. John came in austerity—and they said he was possessed. Jesus came to the table—and they said He was a glutton, a drunkard, “a friend of tax collectors and sinners.” Nothing could satisfy, because satisfaction was never the point. Control was.
That last charge, meant as an insult, is almost a confession of who He is. Philos—friend. He does not visit sinners as a project. He sits with them. The flute and the dirge both belong to Him: the joy of the feast and the grief that prepares the heart. Wisdom is not vindicated by our commentary from the curb. She is vindicated by her children—those who actually enter the music.
Saints Cornelius and Cyprian did not wait for a safer generation. In a Church torn by fear and accusation, they chose communion, mercy, and fidelity when others preferred a song they could conduct. Their blood still asks us whether we are children of Wisdom—or children of the marketplace, always calling, never coming.
You are being invited out of the square. Stop scoring the prophet. Stop scoring the feast. Come near the Friend of sinners, and become His.
Parents, build saint-forming homes. Pray over your spouse and children by name. Act in the power of the Holy Spirit by answering one of God’s songs today—joy or repentance—without first rewriting the tune.
“Jesus invites sinners to the table of the kingdom: ‘I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.’ He invites them to that conversion without which one cannot enter the kingdom, but shows them in word and deed his Father’s boundless mercy for them and the vast ‘joy in heaven over one sinner who repents.’” (CCC 545)
LIFE APPLICATION QUESTIONS
In My Heart: What version of Jesus have I rejected because He would not dance to my terms?
In My Home: Do we teach our children to enter God’s song—or to sit in judgment of it?
In My World: Whom have I dismissed as “too harsh” or “too lax,” instead of asking if Wisdom is calling me?
FAMILY LIVE IT
Make some time today to gather together and, going around …
Name one way your family has sat on the curb instead of entering Jesus’ joy or His call to repent. Then pray over your spouse and each person by name, asking the Father to deepen their personal knowledge of His love, free them from every lie of the Enemy, strengthen them against temptation, and fill them with joyful, concrete living of the Gospel.
Daily Challenge:
Respond to God in one concrete way today without commentary: either rejoice, or repent—then do it.

LORD JESUS CHRIST, let Your holy anointing be upon each of our children, grandchildren, and godchildren this day and week, including all to whom they are called in vocation, and all future generations! In Your Sacred Name we claim them for You! We renounce all whispers, lies, and influences of the Enemy! We pray right now that each know Your loving Presence, be forged in virtue, and be flooded with an abundance of Your Holy Spirit to live fully their identity and mission in You now and through all eternity, through the intercession of our Blessed Mother! Amen.
